Stunning Footage Of The Northern Lights As Seen From The ISS

20 August, 2015

MessageToEagle.com - NASA astronaut Scott Kelly shared a footage of the Northern Lights filmed from the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday, giving everyone back on Earth a rare glimpse of the beautiful phenomenon from above.

Kelly's sighting of the aurora borealis was uploaded to Twitter on Day 141 of his ISS stay. Some observers noted that the lights looked like a flowing river, and interplayed beautifully with the sunrise.

Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko are nearly halfway through a planned year-long stay at the ISS.

Kelly shares almost daily interesting photos and tidbits about his year in space, and past posts have detailed the Suez Canal, pyramids of Egypt, Perseid meteor shower, and more.
The aurora itself occurs when charged particles emitted by the Sun collide with gas molecules in Earth's atmosphere.
